Insomnia/Wakefulness

After 5 years of sometimes daily kratom use, I have consistently noticed that high doses of any strain can produce insomnia. Trying to sleep on a heavy dose will produce a sort of light nod combined with the "waking dream" state commonly associated with morphine. I would like to add a "Wakefulness" entry in the effect profile, but I don't want to go so far without some external go-ahead. Can I do it?

@Aurelian This sounds like a reasonable addition to me. Go for it :) Clarity (talk) 02:13, 2 June 2017 (CEST)

Is it really needed? If it's been demonstrated, easily knowable, and is mentioned within the article and directly implied, is it really necessary? I'm not sure here. --Corticosteroid (talk) 18:22, 20 October 2017 (CEST)

Explanation that kratom has also helped people with alcohol and benzo addiction.

For me, personally, and a few people that I've talked to on Reddit's 'kratom' sub, kratom has been a lifesaver when used as a harm reduction strategy to stop drinking alcohol and stop taking benzodiazapines. This is my post on Reddit, in case anyone is interested: https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Kratom

This is also my first time 'editing' or adding something to a wiki-page so please excuse any mistakes or if this is off-topic. Will gladly correct. Long time fan and reader of PsychonautWiki! From back when you all had a 'chat' function! Keep up the good work!

small edit suggestion

"Hepatoxic" should be changed to hepatotoxic as the former is not a recognized word.

Interaction Warning

Kratom inhibits multiple CYP450 enzymes such as CYP2D6, CYP3A4, and CYP1A2. This has the potential to lead to clinically significant interactions with prescription medication. Also, "Literature indicates that kratom is sometimes fatally mixed with carisoprodol, modafinil, propylhexedrine, Datura stramonium, fentanyl, diphenhydramine, caffeine, morphine, and/or O-desmethyltramadol (Krypton)[7, 8, 21, 35]." (Warner et al 2015) is stated in "The pharmacology and toxicology of kratom: from traditional herb to drug of abuse". Many of the substances listed here are not mentioned as potentially dangerous to mix with kratom.

Strains section incorrect. Common misunderstanding in kratom

Hey there, kratom strains are not made like that.

Quote from reddit: "The veins are generally red when they're small and young, and if anyone says that all kratom veins are red means they are harvesting too early to meet demands. Because the veins will turn green when properly matured. With that said, the color is completely irrelevant other than for judging the maturity of the leaf."

Red is basically fermented leaves and green is air dryed leaves. Gold/yellow (which is missing) is fermented and air dryed.

White is a mixture of red and green with bones(veins), which are stimulating.

Bones are the leaf veins, which are stimulating and usually not included in kratom except for whites.

Strains are not different species. Strains are blends of different types of kratom, and they can vary between vendors.

"It is unlikely that one could ingest a lethal dosage of kratom powder as the nausea will force one to vomit at around 8 - 9 grams"

This can't be correct. I occasionally consume standard-strength kratom powder and found that my minimum effective dose is about 12 grams. I'm nowhere near vomiting... In raw powder form it's certainly hard to get down without capsules, so I'm sure there is a vomit limit, but 8-9 grams is way too low.

kratom extracts

Kratom extracts(especially mitragynine extrats can be seen as a whole new level to kratom and can even be seen as completely different drug. does anyone think there should be a section to mitragynine and 7ohm as a standalone substance or make a page? im aware that there is already a page on kratom(this page), but it talks about kratom leaf. kratom extract is so much different than that on that aspect Novadoesntexist (talk) 13:27, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
