From my area, we all called this effect "Trip pausen", in German which translates to trip breaks, although a more suitable name should be suggested!!

I am looking for people who also know of this since I've heard this from numerous friends (The feeling that the trip just "suddenly stops"). Also there is a reference to it in the DXM FAQ[1], although this might be a different mechanism but still quite comparable.

Trip breaks is an effect in which, during an occurrence the person will spontaneously feel lucid and clearheaded for a short amount of time before returning to their altered state of mind. The user may also have the feeling that their trip "just stopped". This effect is usually more pronounced on novel and low-dose experiences than it is when the substance is used frequently or in impairing dosages. They tend to occur multiple times during the trip, most notable at the peak and comedown.

During this occurrence, the person is usually able to think or talk in a clear and coordinated fashion, when compared to their altered state.

They differ from delusions of sobriety in that the user does not mistakenly feel sober, just lucid for a short amount of time and also don't occur as frequently on stimulants or depressants but more so on hallucinogens, predominantly phenethylamine psychedelics such as 2C-B, 2C-P, DOM or also on dextromethorphan.

@Natzki: Hey dude, I think this probably qualifies as a variation of enhancement and suppression cycles. --Clarity (talk) 03:44, 7 February 2019 (CET)

@Clarity: Hey man, sorry for the late response. I haven't seen this page until now, will definitely look into it. Thanks for pointing this out --Natzki

@Clarity: I looked into this effect enhancement and suppression cycles a bit and my suggestion is to maybe add sub-sections or variations to it to better define the various states? Maybe add this one (Trip breaks, but obviously with a better name) and some others achieved by the higher dosages of psychedelic compounds, as is stated of which I can't comment on but probably someone else. --Natzki

@Unity: pinged --Natzki

@Natzki: At this point you should probably message Josie to see what she thinks. Personally, I don't know what to make of this effect. It might be more of a consequence of how the brain functions than a discrete pharmacological effect. Also, I am pretty sure this effect is possible with all psychedelic compounds, based on various comments I've read online. --Clarity (talk) 04:58, 8 May 2019 (CEST)
