Fatal overdose may occur when GABAergic substances are combined with other depressants such as opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, gabapentinoids, thienodiazepines or alcohol.[1]
It is strongly discouraged to combine these substances, particularly in common to heavy doses.
tert-Butyl alcohol is the simplest tertiary alcohol, with a formula of (CH3)3COH (sometimes represented as t-BuOH). Its isomers are 1-butanol, isobutanol, and butan-2-ol. tert-Butyl alcohol is a colorless solid, which melts near room temperature and has a camphor-like odor. It is miscible with water, ethanol and diethyl ether. Toxicity of single doses is low with high doses being sedative or anesthetic.

All claims in the section are not from sources and simply educated assumptions. It is assumed t butanol binds to the GABA A receptor producing its psychoactive effects. Unlike primary and secondary alcohols, its toxicity is lower due to it being a tertiary alcohol and not oxidised by alcohol dehydrogenase to toxic aldehydes or ketones.
Subjective effects
Subjective effects of t butanol are close to ethanol but more sedating.

- Motor control loss - In comparison to alcohol, t butanol is significantly more impairing to motor control in proportion to other effects.
- Pain relief - In comparison to alcohol, it has significantly more pain relieving properties.

Although toxicity of single doses is low or comparable to alcohol, it is strongly recommended that one use harm reduction practices when using this substance.

Tolerance and addiction potential
As with any other GABA A agonist, repeated use and tolerance with result in withdrawal symptoms akin to alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal upon sudden discontinuation.
