Special Content Project

Special Content Project (SCP) Symbol

In terms of PsychonautWiki content development, a Special Content Project (or SCP) refers to any kind of strategy or initiative meant to identify and improve parts of the site that are agreed to be lacking or needing urgent attention over an extended or compressed timescale. SCPs are designed to draw attention to sections of the Wiki that are being actively developed to signal their potential unreliability. They are also meant to increase the chances of community involvement and encourage readers to become active participants and contributors.

SCPs are typically proposed and organized by administrators or scholars, who oversee the project in terms of identifying the tactics and resources that are needed and having a clear and focused sense on what to improve, ideally drawing and coordinating the effort with those who decide to volunteer after seeing the active project development panels. Nevertheless, proposals from regular contributors are still always welcome.

Active SCPs

Purpose and Organization

An SCP can be thought of as strategic project of creating, revising organizing, or expanding on the informative and educational content available on the Wiki (i.e. making sure it is in accordance with its guidelines and values of the community) to optimize the speed in which the content is developed and refined.

In general, all SCPs must have an easily identifiable project lead or leads who takes on primary responsibility for the project and acts as its interface to greater site content development initiatives (such as increasing the scientific rigor and grounding of our content in proper citations).

Panels

All SCPs will come with their own custom panel that denotes the page is under active development and therefore does not currently reflect the standards of the Wiki.

Conditions

In general, if a page has been designated as part of an SCP, all normal/external minor edits should be put on hold due to the high volatility of page changes (this saves people the time from making minor edits of parts of pages that end up getting wiped entirely later on). During this overhaul period, summaries of the changes will take on the form of "(SCP name) Overhaul In Progress" if deemed justifiably expedient.

Once the overhaul has been deemed complete, the tag will removed and normal editing and summarizing procedures may resume. If one would like to be part of the content developing/editing process as it is occurring, please ask the Project Lead to be added to the project so that changes can be more precisely coordinated. Likewise, if one feels the restrictions imposed by the tag has gone on too long, please feel free to message the Project Lead or another Administrator to notify them of the situation.

Protocols

Before an SCP can be officially initiated, one must first meet these requirements:

  1. Create an issue on our JIRA To-Do Board under the "Special Content Project" board.
  2. Create a PsychonautWiki page (see the page for Project C-PSY for an example.
  3. Design a panel from the template (e.g. search for Template: Project C-SPY Announce, copy it, then search for Template: Project X, create a new page, copy the contents and modify).
  4. Submit your proposal to an administrator or scholar for approval.

Common Ways of Requesting for Help

  • Ask for volunteers to help de-wikipediarip content, both content wise as well as in the citations
  • Make yourself available in case anyone with expertise stumbles across it that ends up with an improved page :)
  • Ask for sources, relevant claims, things, stuff of that nature.
  • Plenty of others I can't think of right now.

Subjective effects

The effects listed below are based upon the subjective effects index and personal experiences of PsychonautWiki contributors. The listed effects will rarely (if ever) occur all at once, but heavier doses will increase the chances and are more likely to induce a full range of effects. Note that these effects are highly variable and not as reliably induced as they are with psychoactive substances.

Physical effects

Cognitive effects

Spiritual effects

These effects are rare and unable to be reliably produced. However, in the right context, their manifestation can be profound.

After effects

The effects which occur during the offset of a SCP experience generally feel negative and uncomfortable in comparison to the effects which occurred during its peak. This is often referred to as a "comedown". Its effects commonly include:
